Trip Overview of Everest Base Camp Trekking
The Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most iconic Himalayan adventures in Nepal, offering breathtaking mountain scenery, rich Sherpa culture, ancient monasteries, and unforgettable trekking experiences in the heart of the Khumbu region. This classic tea house trek is an ideal introduction to the Everest Himalayas and combines spectacular landscapes with the warm hospitality of the Sherpa people.
The journey begins with an exciting mountain flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region. The trail follows the beautiful Dudh Koshi Valley through traditional Sherpa villages, pine forests, suspension bridges, and scenic alpine landscapes surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks including Thamserku and Kusum Kanguru. A gradual ascent leads to the vibrant Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar, where trekkers spend an acclimatization day while enjoying panoramic mountain views and exploring local culture.
Continuing further into Sagarmatha National Park, the trail reaches the famous Tengboche Monastery, one of the spiritual highlights of the Everest region. The breathtaking 360-degree mountain panorama from Tengboche includes Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and Kantega, creating one of the most inspiring Himalayan settings in Nepal.
As the trek progresses through Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorakshep, the landscapes become increasingly dramatic with glacial valleys, rugged mountain terrain, and spectacular close-up Himalayan scenery. The ultimate highlight is reaching Everest Base Camp (5,364m), standing at the foot of the world’s highest mountain.
The adventure also includes an early morning hike to Kala Patthar (5,545m), widely regarded as the best viewpoint for panoramic sunrise views over Mount Everest and surrounding Himalayan giants. After completing this unforgettable achievement, the trek descends gradually back through Namche Bazaar and Lukla before returning to Kathmandu.
Please note that during peak trekking seasons (March to May and September to November), Lukla flights may operate via Ramechhap (Manthali Airport) instead of Kathmandu due to airport traffic conditions.
Please note that Lukla flights are highly weather-dependent and subject to change. During the peak trekking seasons (March to May and September to November), flights to and from Lukla are often operated from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap instead of Kathmandu due to air traffic congestion at Kathmandu Airport. If flights are diverted to Ramechhap, trekkers will drive approximately 4–5 hours from Kathmandu to Manthali before taking a short flight to Lukla. Flight delays and cancellations can occasionally occur due to mountain weather conditions, so we strongly recommend keeping 1–2 extra buffer days after the trek.
